An Urgent Letter

Dear Friends,

Recently a new law was passed by Congress that will affect future consignment sales. The new regulations fall under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, and mandates all products sold for those age 12 and younger- including clothing- be tested for lead and phthalates. This testing is extremely expensive and beyond our capabilities. The new law will affect all consignors, Thrift Stores, Good Will, and all personal sellers (ebay, yard/garage sales, and Craig’s list).

The new regulations take effect February 10, 2009. Due to this date, we will be moving our Spring Consignment Sale up several weeks. The dates of our sale will be February 5th-7th. We will receive items on Sunday, February 1st and Monday, February 2nd.

Due to our need to move our date so quickly, we will begin assigning numbers immediately. You are welcome to contact The Day School at Cahaba Bend at 621-1268 ext 100 or Jenni Pasquini, New2You Consignment Sale chairwoman, at 305-3510. All registration for seller numbers will take place at the Director’s desk at the Day School. At this sale we will be accepting both Fall and Spring clothing.

It is our hope that our congressional representatives will take into consideration how this affects not only us, but all gently-used clothing and toy sellers. If not, this will be our last consignment sale and your last opportunity to sell or buy clothing and toys.
